JOB DESCRIPTION

A School Cleaner is responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary environment within educational facilities. This role is essential in creating a safe and pleasant atmosphere for students, staff, and visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS

No academic qualifications are required. On-the-job training may be provided. Vocational qualifications in Cleaning and Support Services Skills are available at Levels 1 and 2.

TASKS

  • Clean and sanitize desks, chairs, and other furniture in classrooms..
  • Dust and wipe down surfaces to maintain a tidy learning environment..
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in classrooms, hallways, and common areas..
  • Clean and sanitize carpets and rugs as needed..
  • Clean and sanitize bathroom fixtures, including toilets, sinks, and mirrors..
  • Refill dispensers with soap, tissue, and other restroom supplies..
  • Ensure a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene..
  • Empty trash bins in classrooms, offices, and common areas..
  • Dispose of waste in designated receptacles following established procedures..
  • Clean windows and glass surfaces to ensure a clear and hygienic appearance..
  • Clean and sanitize cafeteria tables and chairs..
  • Maintain cleanliness in kitchen areas, including countertops and appliances..
  • Dust surfaces, furniture, and fixtures to remove accumulated dust and cobwebs..
  • Clean and maintain outdoor play equipment and areas..
  • Remove litter and debris from playgrounds and surrounding areas..
  • Respond to spills and accidents promptly to prevent slips and falls..
  • Follow established protocols for handling biohazardous materials if required..
  • Maintain and clean cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners and mops..
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to supervisors..
  • Undertake special cleaning projects, such as deep cleaning or seasonal cleaning tasks..
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs observed during cleaning to supervisors..
  • Document completed tasks and report any issues that may require attention..
